I Am The Body

Reducing The Belief “I am the body”

The “I am the body” belief is associated with unhappiness and all sorts of problems including life threatening illnesses such as anorexia. Instead, people whose beliefs include “I have a body” have a more accepting view of life. The few that report eliminating this “I am the body” belief entirely, report experiencing pure bliss. Just about everyone seems to have a major fear of totaling removing their identification with the body and this fear is difficult to remove. Reducing the “I am the body” belief, however, is achievable using Emotional Freedom Techniques, EFT.

Arunachala Ramana often said that identification with the body, the “I am the body” idea, is delusion.

I am the bodyOne’s own reality, which shines within everyone as the Heart, is itself the ocean of unalloyed bliss. Therefore like the unreal blueness of the sky, misery does not exist in reality but only in mere imagination. Since one’s own reality, which is the sun of jnana that cannot be approached by the dark delusion of ignorance, itself shines as happiness, misery is nothing but an illusion caused by the unreal sense of individuality. In truth no one has ever experienced any such thing other than that unreal illusion. If one scrutinises one’s own Self, which is bliss, there will be no misery at all in one’s life. One suffers because of the idea that the body, which is never oneself, is `I’; suffering is all due to this delusion.

Method One Of Four

I Am The BodyThe “I am the body” belief is very strong and takes much effort to eradicate it. You may find that you need to do EFT on the following setups many times before you achieve anything near 100% success.

You may find that the setups that need the most work are the “fear” and the “identity”. For instance, ‘As you hear the words, “I am afraid that I’ll lose at least part of my identity if I get over the belief that I am the body”, how true does it feel?’

  1. I want to get over the belief that I am the body.

Tapping Into Wealth

Method Three Of Four

Use the following EFT setup:

Even though I am the body, the I opens into openness.
The reminder phrase is – the I opens into openness

This setup gets away from the “I deeply and completely accept myself” of standard EFT because that statement infers that the “I” continues to exist. Rather, with this new technique, the “I” opens. When we use our ego’s (which we do most of the time in our interactions with others), those ego’s feel closed. When they open up and expand into the limitlessness of openness, they disappear along with the belief associated with them.

Be careful to look for multiple “I’s” because a belief may have many “I’s” supporting it, meaning that this exercise may need to be repeated many times before the illusion is totally destroyed.

You may find yourself ‘spaced out’ when doing this exercise. If so, either wait a while until it passes or, alternatively, explore this altered state and find out where it leads you.

You can also try this EFT setup:

Even though I am the body, the body opens into openness.
The reminder phrase is – the body opens into openness
